Devil’s claw extracts are obtained from secondary root of Harpagophytum procumbens DC, a plant of the Pedaliaceae family, originally coming from southern Africa.

Devil’s claw contains several bioactive substances, mainly iridoid glycosides (up to a concentration of 3%) and then glycosides of different flavonoids, chlorogenic and cinnamic acid, triterpenes such as ursolic and oleanolic acids and others. Secoiridoid glycosides fraction is the most active one in terms of health effects and clinical activity.

Devil’s claw is a natural remedy for prevention and treatment of painful arthritis (osteoarthritis) and tendinitis; administration results, in a timeframe of few weeks from the beginning of treatment, in the reduction of pain and in the increase in functionality and mobility of the interested parts.
